The ILP System is an indirect fire suppression system activated by an electromagnetic actuator (solenoid) installed on the cylinder valve. When the actuator is energized, it opens the valve and releases the extinguishing agent, which is then delivered via the pipework and nozzles into the protected zone.
A key component of the system is a pneumatic detection tube connected directly to the cylinder valve. If a fire occurs in the protected area, high temperature causes a pressure change in the detection tube. This releases the valve mechanism and initiates the suppression process immediately.
Both the detection tube and discharge nozzles are installed directly within the protected space, ensuring fast and reliable response.
Novec™ 1230 (FK-5-1-12) is considered an environmentally preferable alternative to halons and many modern HFC-based chemical agents. It is a next-generation clean agent designed for effectiveness, user safety, and minimal environmental impact.
FK-5-1-12 belongs to the broad chemical group referred to as PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances).
For this reason, its future status under EU regulations is currently being assessed.
The EU is pursuing measures to restrict PFAS, often referred to as “forever chemicals.” Novec™ 1230 – despite very favorable environmental parameters – is formally part of this group.
The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) is considering broad restrictions covering over 10,000 PFAS substances related to:
production,
placing on the market,
use.
The assessment of the proposal is expected to continue at least until the end of 2025.
Due to the lack of equally effective alternatives for next-generation fire suppression systems:
planned regulations are expected to include exemptions for such critical applications,
a long transitional period – potentially up to 12 years after entry into force – is anticipated.
This means Novec™ 1230 can be used without major obstacles for many years, while users and manufacturers will have time to adapt to any potential new requirements.
The ILP System, combined with the Novec™ 1230 clean agent, is a modern, effective, and environmentally responsible fire protection solution for rooms and facilities of high strategic, technical, or economic importance.
